Virtual Local Phone Number

Virtual local phone number lets you choose a new phone number that stays with you, not a device or location. Your Google Voice number won't be your exisiting mobile device or landline number; you select a new number when signing up, which you can use for all your phones.
Ready to sign up for virtual phone numbers free? Here's how the process works, and some tips for choosing and setting up your number (click on the blue links for information about each step):
  1. Go to the Google Voice website and sign in using your Google account. (If you don't have a Google account you can create one.
  2. You'll be prompted to choose whether you want a new number or you want to use your existing number. Choose I want a new number.Learn more about the difference between the two options:

  3. Search for your new Google number and once you've chosen one click Continue.Tips for finding a new Google number
  4. Choose a PIN to use to retrieve your messages and access your virtual number phone settings from any phone.
  5. Enter a forwarding phone number (this is the phone that will ring when someone calls your Google Voice number) and select a type from the 'Phone type' drop-down menu.Learn more about how forwarding phone numbers work
  6. Verify your phone. You'll see a numerical code along with a Call Me Now button. When you click the button, we'll call your forwarding phone and ask you to enter the code on the screen so we know the phone number you gave us is the right one.
Congratulations! Your google virtual phone number is all set up. You can choose to add more phones to forward to or take a look around the Google Voice inbox.

International Virtual Phone Number

You can make international calls at very low rates with International Virtual Phone Number. You can use the Google Voice website or the phone system, as long as you have one of your forwarding phones or your mobile device available to complete the call.
Get started by purchasing credit through Google Wallet. Rates vary by country and will be counted on a per minute basis. To view international calling rates, click the See Rates link in the Billing tab of your Google Voice Settings page.
You can make calls outside the United States from the International Virtual Phone Number website or through the Google Voice phone system:
  • From the website: Click the Call button at the top left of the page and enter "+country code" or "+1countrycode" (depending where you're calling) followed by the international number. For example: +442012345612345 or +1246-426-0200.
  • From the Google Voice phone system: Access the Google Voice phone system by either calling your Google number, or if you're using Google Voice Lite, calling your access number from a mobile phone registered on your account. Once you're in the Google Voice system, press 2 to make a call. When dialing an international number, enter 011, the country code, and then the number (for example: 011442012345612345).

Because phone numbers are a limited resource, it is Google Voice's policy to reclaim unused numbers so they can be made available to new users. We sent you an email because we noticed that you haven't used your International Virtual Phone Number in awhile.
If you’d like to keep your virtual phone number number, you will need to sign in to your account to make calls or send text messages or, use one of our mobile apps, by the date stated in the email you received. Please remember that your current number will be reclaimed by the date stated in the email unless you start using it. If the number is reclaimed, your existing messages will remain available in your account, but you will no longer be able to receive calls or text messages.

If you number has been reclaimed, you will still be able to get it back for 30 days (but only 30 days) after the reclaim date outlined in the email you received. To get your phone number virtual number back after it has been reclaimed:
  1. Go to http://www.google.com/voice and sign in to the Google Account associated with your reclaimed Google Voice number.
  2. Select Get a Google Voice Number from the left side of your virtual number phone inbox or from the Phones tab of your Google Voice Settings.
  3. A dialogue box will appear. Please enter your former Google Voice number and click search. When your number appears, select it as your new virtual international phone numbers. This number will only show up as available to you. And, in order to see the number in the search results, you must be signed in to the Google Account associated with the number you would like to reclaim.
You will have 30 days after your number has been reclaimed to complete this process.
