Steam powered car, with a phantom view to show the steam engine inside it. Design loosely based on a chameleon. I guess this is my first vehicle design as well, woop woop!

In an alternate universe where birds are intelligent and powerful, humans must seek diplomacy with the avian species to avoid warring. For each species of birds, there is a human emissary who acts as an ambassador of goodwill between the two factions. The Emissaries can speak the language of the bird species they represent, and are often as integrated with the bird culture as they are their own. The emissary pictured here is the ambassador of the cardinal species, and handles their affairs at government meetings.

Character concept. Was trying to keep it a little looser than usual, but still rendered it a fair bit despite those intentions. At any rate, I worked MUCH faster than usual on this one, which was really the goal of being looser anyway. Trying to up my speed, so this is a victory! :D

Having troubles with colour synching for web images.. have to try and figure it out. Everything is looking a bit off somewhere from psd to jpg. I have some figuring out to do. :P

The cagebeast! A beast of burden, used for transporting low to medium security prisoners. WIth minor modifications, its natural horn growths can be used as a rudimentary cage.

I tried a new painting technique for this one, making sure I nailed all the values in greyscale, then did an overpaint. With the values popped in, it was only really a matter of tweaking saturation and varying up the hues. I've found colour theory is a lot easier to understand if it can be compartmentalized, rather than tackled all at the same time. I'm sure I'll end up taking a few more passes at this piece as I keep looking at it/spotting errors. But for now it just feels nice to put it up as is. :) Critiques welcome as always!

This is a Rhino sculpt I made for one of my school projects. I'm glad we were assigned to do it, sculpting is way way way out of my comfort zone and I probably wouldn't have taken a stab at it otherwise. This is the first sculpture I've ever done, and I really enjoyed it. Might make another one sometime!

Constructed of a wire armature, bulked out with tinfoil, coated in Super Sculpey. Painted with acrylic.

This is a concept design for a spanish-style fishing village that floats through the ocean. It has no way of navigating the tides - and doesn't need to. The carefree residents of this village don't mind where they are, so long as there are plenty of fish to catch. They supplement their resources by using the roofs of their village for agriculture. Since there are no roads, buildings can be navigated through a labyrinth of ladders, bridges, and staircases.

This will probably be updated with tweaks as I receive critiques to improve it. But this is 'mostly finished' .Interior painting coming soon! :D

Hi! Here are a couple of my last projects for the school year. Not 110% my cup of tea, but they were fun to do none the less and I'm proud of them! :)

Here's some posters for graphic design class. It was an exercise to include a preset snippet of information using a typographic hierarchy. The main elements were to be the composer (Glass), the performer (Zukerman) and other information. The poster was to have a 'feel' that represented the composer's musical style - in this case, minimalistic and somewhat repetitive.

The following is a tiny piece of work I did for my Drawing class. A Photoshop render of a kiosk assembled from Extrudex aluminum parts, complete with signage design. Also shown is an exploded isometric view, working as a manual to show how to assemble the kiosk.

The final image was done for my Scientific Illustration class - a fun and interesting topic to explore with digital painting :D! The image displays the breeding cycle of lake midges. They exist as larva in the water for a period ranging from a few weeks to several years. The larva mature into adults under the water, then swim up to the surface to breed. With such abundant numbers, their breeding swarms appear to be huge cloud-like pillars, spanning several hundred meters in height. When early explorers first saw these smoky columns, they thought the water was on fire. As a final published piece, this illustration would be accompanied by explanatory text.

Finished the second spread of my scientific illustration project today! I will be adding textboxes and maybe a few extra super small tweaks after this but for all purposes concerning this blog it's done. Maybe I'll upload the graphically-designed dual spread in a smallish format once they're fused together.

So here it is! Barn owl and a common pheasant showing off their mad flyin' skillz. :3 (Unfortunately the colours on the upload are a little off, too contrasty on the pheasant and too washed out in the background, but this is the closest I can get it without putting too much time into tweaking - hope you enjoy, regardless!)

Hello again!
Here's a little update on a project I've done for my Scientific Illustration class - depicting two archaeopteryx. I'm trying to suggest possible ways they utilized their wings, by running along the ground and taking off or swooping down from the trees. This image will be juxtaposed with another similar image of modern birds (which is still a WIP, coming soon!) The two images will be meant to propose flight similarities between modern birds and their prehistoric ancestors.
